Why we love this baby Guinness shot recipe
It’s always great to have a unique and festive St. Paddy’s day cocktail – one that does not involve green beer. Just like my other mini beer shots and the Irish breakfast shot, these little Guinness shots are adorably cute and so fun to serve for a St. Patrick’s day get togethers. They’re also a bit hit at game day parties, too!
If you’re looking for more fun shot recipes, be sure to try these Scooby Snack shots or white gummy bear shots – both taste just like they’re gummy counterparts. Readers also love my key lime pie shots, peanut butter and jelly shots and Mexican candy shots.
Ingredients & substitutions
- Coffee liqueur – Any coffee liqueur will work for this recipe. Kahlua is the most common, but there are lots of great options out there.
- Baileys Irish Cream – I haven’t tried this with another Irish cream, but I would assume other brands should work. Just make sure it’s cold – it really helps with the layering.
Making changes to a recipe can result in recipe failure. Any substitutions listed below are simple changes that I believe will work in this recipe, but results are not guaranteed.

How to make a baby Guinness shot
You’ll want to start by making sure that all of your ingredients are cold – especially the Bailey’s. This helps when layering the shots. Chilled glasses help, too.
Next, fill a shot glass with coffee liqueur, about ¾ of the way full. The measurements will depend on the size of your shot glass, but a regular shot glass is usually 1.5 ounces, so average for this layer would be about 1 – 1 1/4 ounces of Kahlua.
Then, use a bar spoon to layer the Irish cream over the coffee liqueur until you have a nice thick layer. This will probably take about 1/4 – 1/2 ounce.
Repeat until you have as many shots as you need. Serve immediately.
Go ahead. Have another drink!
