Why we love the golden dream cocktail
You probably already know that we’ve been having a lot of fun playing around with Galliano cocktails this month. We’ve already enjoyed a classic Harvey Wallbanger, the yellow bird cocktail, and my favorite – the golden cadillac drink.
But, I have one more Galliano classic for you to try – the orange dream cocktail – and it’s a good one. It’s sweet and creamy, with a hint of this herbaceous liqueur. It’s like a grown up Orange Julius if you will.
If you love a good creamy cocktail, don’t forget to try the Toblerone cocktail or the slightly complicated, but still amazing Ramos gin fizz. For a non-alcoholic option, try my passion fruit mocktail or go with the cotton candy martini if you’re craving something super sweet.

Ingredients & substitutions
- Galliano – A herbal Italian liqueur that provides this cocktail’s beautiful coloring and adds subtle spice and herbal notes.
- Triple sec – Any orange liqueur will work for this recipe. We love to use Cointreau, but classic triple sec will add a bit more sweetness to this cocktail.
- Orange juice – Fresh squeezed citrus is always best, but I think for orange juice, you can get away bottled as long as it’s a premium brand and not made from concentrate.
- Cream – We typically use half-and-half for cocktails, but heavy cream will work, too. I also thick coconut cream with work really well in the cocktail and make it dairy free.
Making changes to a recipe can result in recipe failure. Any substitutions listed below are simple changes that I believe will work in this recipe, but results are not guaranteed.

The following is a detailed overview of the recipe steps with added tips and tricks for recipe success. For a simplified and printable version, including ingredient amounts and more formal instructions, see the recipe card below.
How to make the golden dream cocktail
Start by chilling your glass. You don’t have to do this, but it’s always helpful when you’re serving your cocktail up. If you want to do this quickly, fill you glass with ice and water while you’re mixing your cocktail.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the Galliano, triple sec, orange juice and cream. Cover and shake until the cocktail is well chilled.
Next, strain the cocktail into your chilled glass and garnish with an orange twist.

Frequently asked questions
- What kind of alcohol is Galliano? Galliano is an herbal liqueur made in Italy. It is vibrant yellow in color and features anise and vanilla notes. It is considered a digestif, and often served after dinner or in cocktails. While it has similar flavors to other anise liqueurs such as sambuca or pastis, its anise flavor is less pronounced and rounded out slightly by the hint of vanilla.
