Why we love this basil grapefruit martini
- It’s fresh and vibrant. All cocktails made with fresh squeezed juice are just a step up from the rest, and this one takes it just a bit further by adding fresh torn basil leaves. The shaking of basil in the cocktail releases its essential oils, adding a subtle botanical element to the martini.
- It’s seasonal yet timeless. It’s refreshing enough for a summer day, but it’s also so relevant in the winter when citrus is at its best.
- It’s simple and versatile. This martini is a go-to when you want a cocktail that’s not too fancy but still impresses, try serving it at your next brunch – it pairs perfectly with quiche and avocado toast.

Ingredients & substitutions
- Grapefruit juice – Normally, I say fresh squeezed is best, but for grapefruit juice I think it’s ok to do bottled as long as it doesn’t contain added sweeteners.
- Simple syrup – Classic simple syrup can also be substituted by agave nectar or honey syrup.
- Vodka – Use a good quality vodka, but you don’t need to spend a ton of money either. We used Tito’s for this one, but I’ve also used a local distillery’s vodka.
- Basil leaves – Fresh basil gives this cocktail a refreshing and herbaceous twist, but you can substitute other herbs, such as rosemary or thyme. I even think cilantro would be delicious with grapefruit.

Garnish and serve. Strain your cocktail into a chilled martini glass and garnish with either a basil leave or a slice/wedge of grapefruit.
