Why we love these mini beer shots
- These little beer shots, which are also called baby beer shots, are just so adorable. Everything is cuter when it’s in miniature, right?
- We love to serve these around St. Patrick’s Day – they’re way better than green beer in my opinion – but they’re festive enough for any time of year, like football game or a summer barbecue.
- These shots are super easy to make, but they make for a great presentation and will definitely impress your guests.
Here’s what you’ll need to make it

Equipment
Ingredients & substitutions
- Licor 43 – This is what mimics the look of the beer. It has a creamy, spiced vanilla taste with hints of citrus. Make sure to chill it before pouring.
- Heavy cream – This is what created the mini beer shots “foamy head”. It adds a creaminess to the shot that you will love. You can use half and half if you prefer. It will layer similarly.
- Chilled shot glasses – For that frosty beer look. optional.
How to make a mini beer shot
Chill the ingredients. This is important because we are not going to shake this shot. Obviously, heavy cream will be kept in the fridge but pop the bottle of Licor 43 in the freezer for about 30 minutes before serving if you can.
Layer the shots. Fill a chilled shot glass about ¾ of the way full with Licor 43. It doesn’t need to be exact, but you should fill as many as you need before moving to the next step.
Then, using the back of a bar spoon, layer heavy cream to top of shot glass. Depending on the size of your glass, you’ll need about 1/8 – 1/4 ounce.
Quick tip: I find that pouring from a jigger with a spout, like this angled one, gives you more control over your liquids and makes layering easier.
Everything you need to know about Licor 43 beer shots
This one -of-a-kind alcohol originates from Spain. It’s a sweet, golden liqueur that has flavors of vanilla, citrus and spices.
No. Licor 43 doesn’t need to be stored in the refrigerator, but it’s best served chilled. Pop it in the fridge for an hour or 2 before serving.
No time? The freezer works a little faster, 30 minutes and it should be chilled perfectly.
This is a difficult one to answer. Licor 43 is a very unique liqueur that is hard which makes it hard to find a suitable substitute. Our best recommendations: Galliano or Tuaca. These both have a similar vanilla flavor with a nice thick texture that would mirror the Licor 43 for this recipe.
