Spicy Pineapple Margarita
Made with fresh pineapple juice and poblano liqueur, this spicy pineapple margarita is an exciting, tropical twist on the classic tequila cocktail. This refreshing margarita is served on the rocks and garnished with fresh jalapeño and a salted chili rim.

Why we love this spicy pineapple margarita
- The incredible combination in this margarita is undeniable. Spice it up a little more with some jalapeño simple syrup instead of agave nectar.
- A spicy pineapple margarita is perfect for sipping by the pool, for your next summer bbq or for an elevated taco night!
- If you want to enjoy the flavors of this margarita, without the spice swap the ancho verde for a plain triple sec.

Equipment

Ingredients & substitutions
- Tequila – I like to use a blanco tequila for this recipe, but you can use whatever tequila you prefer.
- Ancho Reyes Verde – This is a spicy, slightly sweet Mexican liqueur made with poblano peppers and other ingredients like lime and pineapple.
- Lime juice – Fresh is best when it comes to citrus. It’s worth the effort to squeeze those limes.
- Pineapple juice – Canned pineapple juice works great, and I like to buy smaller sizes (usually 6 – 8 ounce cans) so I don’t have to worry about waste.

How to make a spicy pineapple margarita
Rim margarita glasses. Use a lime wedge or agave nectar to moisten the edge of the glass around the rim. Dip or roll the glass in a small plate of tajin. Tap off excess.
Fill a cocktail shaker. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker. You can omit the jalapeño slices at this point or just toss them in. Adding them to the shaker will heighten the level of spiciness in the margarita.
Strain and serve. Strain contents of the shaker into ice-filled, tajin rimmed margarita glasses. Garnish with additional jalapeño slices, pineapple wedges or a slice of lime.

Everything you need to know about spicy margaritas
For this spicy margarita the heat is coming from the poblano pepper liqueur, but that’s not the only way to spice up a margarita. If you like it even hotter try adding in ½ ounce of jalapeño simple syrup to the mix, you won’t be disappointed.
