Featuring floral hibiscus syrup and smoky mezcal, this simple blood orange mezcalita is a refreshing and vibrant cocktail that's perfect for a girl's night out or a weekend treat. Rim your this mezcal margarita variation with Tajin and garnish with a blood orange slice for extra flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces mezcal
  • 2 ounces blood orange juice
  • 1/2 ounce orange liqueur (such as Cointreau)
  • 1 ounce hibiscus simple syrup (recipe follows)
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice
  • For garnish: Tajin (blood orange wedge)

Instructions

  • Rim glass with Tajin and fill with ice. Set aside.
  • Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake until cold.
  • Strain into prepared glass and garnish with a blood orange wedge.

Notes

To make the hibiscus simple syrup: Combine 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar and 2 hibiscus tea bags in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar has dissolved. Remove saucepan from the heat and allow the tea to steep until the mixture cooled to room temperature. Discard tea bags and transfer to the simple syrup to a storage container.
