Blue Motorcycle Cocktail

The blue motorcycle cocktail is a colorful twist on a traditional long island iced tea, made with blue curaçao and lemon-lime soda. This blue long island iced tea is also known as a walk me down drink – or by its more ominous name, adios motherf***er. Whatever you call it, this strong cocktail packs a punch, so use caution and drink responsibly.

All about the blue motorcycle cocktail

The history of this cocktail is a bit of a mystery to me. As is the name itself, but the internet says it originated in the early 1970s in New York.

Regardless, if you love a long island iced tea, you’re going to love a blue motorcycle. It’s basically the same thing, but instead of coke and triple sec, you top this drink with blue curaçao and 7up (or whatever lemon-lime soda you have).

Just like the long island iced tea, the combination of liquors and flavors creates a wonderfully strong, yet palatable drink, you’re definitely going to feel its effects.

Here’s what you’ll need to make it

How to make a blue long island cocktail

Shake the cocktail. Fill a large cocktail shaker with ice and measure your ingredients. Cover and shake until cold.

Top with soda. Strain the cocktail into a highball glass filled with ice. Top with lemon lime soda.

Garnish and serve. Add a lemon wedge, a maraschino cherry and a mint sprig before serving. The cherry and mint are optional, but the lemon is pretty necessary for this drink.

FAQs and tips for making a blue motorcycle cocktail

What does blue curacao taste like?

This beautifully colored liqueur has sweet but subtle flavors of orange zest. It is said to be similar to triple sec, but with a sweeter and zestier flavor.

What makes blue curacao blue?

This one is nothing extraordinary like Empress gin, it is simply colored with food coloring.

This was delicious and just the right mix of liquor, a little sweetness and sour to level it out. Love it!
