Why you’ll love this cocotini
Our oldest spent most of the week home from school last week, so I let her catch up on Only Murders in the Building, and while it might be slightly inappropriate (don’t come at me!) at times, she’s super into true crime, so I knew she would like it.
We are just about to start watching season 5 of Only Murders in the Building, so I figured it would be fun to kick things off with the infamous cocotini from the show! Of course, we left out the gut milk, but it’s still delicious.

Ingredients & Substitutions
- Vanilla vodka – I love the extra flavor this adds, but if you want, you can use plain vodka.
- Coconut rum – We used Malibu, but you can use a similar brand or a coconut liqueur.
- Cream of coconut – This is the thick, sweetened stuff used to make piña coladas, such as Coco Lopez or Coco Real. If you don’t have this, sub simple syrup or agave nectar.
- Coconut milk – You want full-fat, canned coconut milk for this, or you could swap in half-and-half.
- Pineapple juice – Any kind will do. We usually keep canned around for making cocktails and find it works great.
Making changes to a recipe can result in recipe failure. Any substitutions listed below are simple changes that I believe will work in this recipe, but results are not guaranteed.

Mel’s cocktail tips & tricks
- Always chill your cocktail glasses. If you have room in your fridge or freezer, pop them in ahead of time. If not, chill them with ice while you make your drinks!
- To rim your glasses, dip them in a bit of cream of coconut, then dip them into the shredded coconut. Agave nectar or simple syrup will also work.
