Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Vanilla ice cream – Use your favorite vanilla ice cream, or feel free to use dairy free ice cream if you want to make this vegan-friendly.
  • Vanilla vodka – If you don’t have vanilla vodka, you can use regular and add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the shake. You could also use whipped cream vodka if you have it.
  • Crème de menthe – There are different types of creme de menthe, but for this drink you want the green one.

How to make a boozy shamrock shake

Blend the shake. Add about 6 scoops of ice cream to a blender with 4 ounces vanilla vodka and 2 ounces of creme de menthe. Cover and blend until smooth.

Garnish and serve. Divide the shakes into two chilled cocktail glass (preferably highball or larger capacity glasses) and top with whipped cream. Garnish with sprinkles and a cherry before serving.

Mel’s cocktail tips & tricks

  • Always chill your cocktail glasses. If you have room in your fridge or freezer, pop them in ahead of time. If not, chill them with ice while you make your drinks!
  • Keep in mind that the alcohol will automatically melt the ice cream a little bit, so your shake will probably be a little thinner than a non-alcoholic milkshake might be. I promise it’s still great though!
