Why you’ll love this creamsicle cocktail
The creamsicle cocktail is inspired by the orange cream popsicle, a classic treat that dates back to the 1920s, and when something is so well loved, it’s only natural that cocktail versions pop up. One of the first cocktail variations of a creamsicle cocktail is in The Savoy Cocktail book from the 1930s, but Harry’s version uses orange liqueur and sweet cream.
I’ve changed things up a bit to use the incredible winter citrus we’ve been enjoying lately, and I opted for coconut milk to keep it dairy free. The resulting cocktail was a tangy, creamy treat that’s packed with nostalgic flavors.

Ingredients & Substitutions
- Vanilla vodka – If you don’t have vanilla vodka, whipped cream vodka will work, or you can add a few drops of vanilla extract to your cocktail shaker to make up for that vanilla flavor.
- Orange juice – Please only use fresh squeezed citrus for this. The drink would be fine with bottled, but there is something so delicate and perfect about fresh squeezed that can’t be beat.
- Coconut milk – You want the full-fat canned coconut milk, not the thinned out stuff from the fridge section. If you don’t have this, you can swap half-and-half or heavy cream.
- Simple syrup – Store bought or homemade simple syrup will work here. You can also use agave, but it will change the flavor a bit.

Mel’s cocktail tips & tricks
- Fresh squeezed is always best. I recommend juicing your citrus when you’re making your cocktail, but if you need to prep, do it as close to when you’re serving as possible.
- Always chill your cocktail glasses. If you have room in your fridge or freezer, pop them in ahead of time. If not, chill them with ice while you make your drinks!
