Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Whipped cream vodka – Vanilla vodka would also work here.
  • Peppermint schnapps – A lot of this goes a long way, so you only need a little bit, but the peppermint flavor is perfect in this martini.
  • Irish cream – If you don’t have Irish cream, you can substitute Rumchata or another simple cream liqueur.
  • Creme de cacao – This mellows the flavor of the peppermint and balances the flavors. If you don’t have this, a chocolate liqueur would also work.
  • Half & half – Heavy cream would work here too!

How to make a candy cane martini

Rim glasses. Dip the rim of a martini glass in light corn syrup, allow excess to drip off and dip into crushed candy cane pieces. Set aside.

Shake the martini. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the cocktail ingredients. Shake until cold, usually about 30 – 40 seconds.

Serve. Strain the martini into your prepared glasses and serve immediately.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get a candy cane to stick to a martini glass?

I like using karo syrup (or any other light corn syrup) to rim glasses when I’m using something other than plain salt or sugar. It’s extra sticky so it will help the heavier or different shaped items stick to the glass very well! Make sure to allow any excess to drip off before dipping into your candy pieces, so you don’t have any dripping into the martini.

Recipe Notes

We used a light corn syrup to rim our martini glasses. This helps the larger/heavier items stick well to the glass.
